Sleep is my friend!

So I have been running on empty the last two weeks. Absolute empty. I was sick two weeks ago, and it is still with me because I am not slowing down at all. Last Monday I went to see Eric Clapton in concert with my parents-- I bought the tickets for my dad for his birthday and Father's Day. It was amazing! I had a blast. It was a great perfomance. Tuesday was my night to grade and plan. Then on Wednesday I Freshman Induction. Basically, we welcome the freshmen class into the school family... this raises the question- Were they not really part of the family before? Should we have liked them before that?

Thursday I went to dinner with my aunt. We went to Mira Sol in the Loop. Latin tapas. It was fabulous. Plus, we got to do girl talk and catch up which we had not done in ages. Jess like high school but really wishes she was in an all girls school so that she did not have to do the makeup thing everyday. And believe me, they do not do the makeup thing, ever.

Saturday, Amy, Jill, and I met Emily in Columbia. It was an excuse to get out of town. We just hung out and went to a bunch of places that Mary recommended. We ran into a guy that we grew up with which was really fun. It was a long night. I think Amy and I headed to bed around 4. It has not made this crazy week any better. . .

Monday was back to school night which was a nice 14 hour day. I really did not feel well at all, so it was really hard to be nice to all of the parents for 3 hours. It is just a really long night. Way too much. I debated calling in Tuesday which I probably should have done. But I survived school. Last night I went to the horrible, awful Cardinals game with Amy. I went down to visit students who were there. (I am such a great teacher! They were really excited to see me!) I was lucky enough to walk outside to see my back windshield shattered. They did not actually break in, so nothing was stolen, thank goodness. The cops said that someone probably just hit it. What a jerk! I cannot believe that at all! What crap! However, I am back to no car, and I think that maybe I should not drive for the rest of 2006. Things are just not going well for me in the car world. I cannot get it replaced until Monday. So lucky me, I am staying at my parents' tonight and tomorrow so that I can get to school. I am going to steal one of their cars for the weekend though.

And Friday... everyone is going to be jealous... I get to chaperone the fall dance on Friday night. All of the teachers are supposed to be there. So I get to do a little coat check and just hang out with the other teachers. Plus, we get lots of free food. So it will be interesting. They have not talked about anything else except their dresses, hair, and dates. I am going to scream if I have to tell anyone else which hairstyle to pick. Then Sunday is Fall Fest. I have to set up, but then I get to sneak out in order to go to the last game of the Cards season. Hopefully they will not make it a boring game that means nothing. Currently, they are tied with the Padres, and Houston is tied. So hopefully they can make up some ground tonight.

I am off to bed... the whole windshield thing kept me up until 2 am. Four hours of sleep with teenage girls on sugr is not fun!

Keropee lives on!

I just got home from the Forest Park Classic. It was a huge Cross Country Meet. Mary and I went to see our students run. I figured this was the best one to go to since it was so close to home. The JV girls did a great job. Alex D (don't know how to spell it, but she is in my B period), a freshmen finished third. It was a great time! They were all really excited to see me, so that is always fun.

I walked by CJ's tent. They have a green tarp still. Memories... they have moved up to having a tent also. Their Varsity did really well today! Several girls were in the top ten. As I walked by, I thought about asking to see if our wonderful mascot Keropie (frogB in the above picture, apparently, he has friends, who knew?) was still around. No one was there though except parents. Later on as I am walking across this totally abandoned field, THERE was Keropie. Face down on the ground. I was speecheless. They loved him enough to keep him for ten years but there he was discarded on the ground! I have to tell you though, he looks great for being as old as he is. Danielle's inspirational quotes are still in there. No note from Cathy though. They have started putting in notes from the captains of recent years-- his tummy is full!

So I read a bunch of them. Lots of quotes, we really started something there! So I headed back in the direction of their tent but still no one. When I finally found CJ girls, I think they were freshmen. But I went up to them and asked if they were on the team. One said yes. I told her that I was from the class of 97 and very disappointed, then I showed her Keropie. I told her that we were the ones who started Keropie. Plus, I was very disappointed that they just left him! I told him they had to be more careful because that was our legacy as well as theirs. Well, as I said, I think that it was a freshmen and she looked scared to death. But hopefully he will not be discarded face down in the middle of a field anymore. But I am really happy that Keropie lives on!

Anyway, 8 am came really early this morning after a long week of school. I am going to eat some lunch and take a nap. Then a housewarming party at Doug's and possibly a school homecoming! Happy weekend!

Exhausted

So I feel like time is flying by. How have I already been at school almost 3 full weeks? My roommate situation = DRAMA! Elaine is actually hardly ever home. She has been running like crazy doing bike races and stuff. My Labor Day weekend was busy but tame. Happy hour lasted from 3:30 til 8:30 on Friday. Then I went out to the Hill. Saturday, Mary and I dragged out lazy butts out of bed and walked to Fitz's for lunch. While sitting outside, I was lucky enough to see students walking around in the Loop. It just made my weekend, let me tell you to have students screaming my name and waving at me while standing in the middle of the street. Sunday I ended up going out for two drinks with Josh. Well, that turned into more than two. That was rough. I cannot believe how fast it went. Here's to another month without a day off. Fun Fun!

I have decided with another teacher, Jaime that you must get most annoyed with students that have your name. Atleast that is what we have realized. I have my first Christy. She is actually a really good kid, but she can be a little of a smart ass. She called herself that, so I feel no problems repeating it. Ok, I have to cut this short, gotta deal with a crisis in the apartment. We have a really scary looking bug!
